Mar 2012 New publication on a novel solvent system for graphene (J. Am. Chem. Soc.):
"Stabilization of Graphene Sheets by a Structured Benzene / Hexafluorobenzene Mixed Solvent". J. Am. Chem. Soc., in press (2012).
Mar 2012 "Making spider-sense" — our ground breaking discoveries on the silk protein are featured in the ideation magazine.
Feb 2012 Our publication on the silk worm protein gets published in Biomacromolecules:
"Shear-Induced Self-Assembly of Native Silk Proteins into Fibrils Studied by Atomic Force Microscopy". Biomacromolecules, in press (2012).
Nov 2011 Our publication on graphene oxide nanocomposites gets published in Macromolecules, the #1 polymer journal:
"In Situ Reduction of Graphene Oxide in Polymers". Macromolecules 44, 9821–9829 (2011).
Oct 2011 Prof. Schniepp gives an invited talk on graphene-based polymer nanocomposites at the 2011 SERMACS meeting in Richmond, VA.
Aug 2011 Our paper on graphene–polymer interactions gets published:
"Measurement of the interfacial attraction between graphene oxide sheets and the polymer in a nanocomposite". J. Appl. Polym. Sci.122, 3739–3743 (2011).
Jun 2011 The Schniepp group receives an NSF EAGER award (award No. 1111030) to investigate graphene-based nanomaterials as next-generation photoelectronic materials.
May 2011 Dr. A. Jaeton Glover joins our team as a postdoctoral researcher.
Apr 2011 Congratulations to our team member Eric Yang, who was selected to receive a Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) Undergraduate Research Scholarship for the 2011–2012 academic year.
Feb 2011 Laura Rickard from our research group was selected to present our on work implant materials to members of the VA General Assembly and government representatives.
Jan 2011 Our paper on Titanium-based implant materials gets published:
"Surface oxide net charge of a titanium alloy: Comparison between effects of treatment with heat or radiofrequency plasma glow discharge". Coll. Surf. B82, 173–181 (2011).
Dec 2010 The Schniepp group receives a research grant from the Thomas F. Jeffress and Kate Miller Jeffress Memorial Trust. The funds will greatly enhance our silk project.
Nov 2010 Outreach activity: Prof. Schniepp gives science classes for 120 middle school students at Berkeley Middle School in Williamsburg, VA, teaching about touching atoms with a sharp AFM tip. This activity is part of W&M's 2010 Laserfest.
Oct 2010 Publication appears in Applied Optics:
